For You, on Mother’s Day

As I lay, sat, walked, ran, I saw you. mumma2
Saw you, day after day as loved ones
do so the warmth of your face and the
embrace of your laugh were never
strangers to me.
To be, and already to know you, to feel
behind me your presence, like a certainty:
this is what they talk of when they say
Happiness.
And every day that I run faster I see you
more clearly – shining, living, showing me
each moment all that you are and all that
you have made me.
So as I lay, sat, walked, ran, I loved you
more and more, seeing you, knowing you:
love in a language that only
you and I can understand.
