Fall

Earthbound she waits, somewhere in the dark,
bored beneath skies once static that hiss, spit
with desperate spectacle. Embers burn, Eden
red and scented with poison, seizing a light
inside her – ignited now: flame. And you the
match, the bite; you the monstrous possibility.
Words, lives, she hoards them all – art again
and again the answer, the call; to you, with
wild haste she runs, imitation of art, a race:
you’ve won. Breathless, wounded before it
begins – she cries, she curses, innocent sin.
